The Aloe Turtle, also known as Chelanoidis aloeveraphorus,[1] is a species of giant turtle superspecies that first appeared in the 2023Monsterverse animated series, Skull Island.
The name "Aloe Turtle" refers to the numerous growths of aloe vera protruding from the creature's shell.
Chelanoidis aloeveraphorus is derived from Chelonoidis, a genus of tortoise, aloe vera, a species of succulent plants, and the suffix 'phorus', which is a variation of the Greek word 'phorous', meaning bearing or carrying.
Design
Appearance
Aloe Turtles are large terrestrial florafauna turtles with four tortoise-like legs, a rotund stony shell with numerous growths of Aloe Vera protruding from it, and a stocky head armed with a toothless beak.
Personality
Aloe Turtles are docile creatures. When shipwreck survivors Irene and Cap encounter one, the creature simply looks at the duo before promptly walking away into the jungle of Skull Island.
While traversing through the jungles of Skull Island, shipwreck survivors Irene and Cap stumble upon rock covered in Aloe Vera. The rock subsequently rises, revealing itself to be an Aloe Turtle that had been camouflaging against the ground. The Aloe Turtle briefly stares at the duo before walking away deeper into the jungle.
Abilities
Camouflage
Aloe Turtles are capable of camouflaging against the ground, giving them the appearance of a large boulder covered in Aloe Vera.
A creature similar to the plant-based turtle, the Magma Turtle, is also native to Skull Island. Although the two are different species, they were designed to evoke each other.[2]
