The "Leviathan" likely refers to the Biblical use, in which the Leviathan is a giant sea creature created by God, usually described as a serpentine crocodile or a whale. This creature is the counterpart to the Behemoth. Leviathan's name may also refer to the primary definitions of "leviathan", either a massive aquatic creature or something very large and powerful. Some myths refer to Leviathan as a male, while others refer to it as a female.
Leviathan's other name, Nessie, is an aquatic serpentine cryptid that has been sighted in Loch Ness, Scotland, since 7th century AD.
A photograph of the Loch Ness Monster can be seen on the interior of the Once in a Maritime, a ship staffed by cryptid enthusiasts. It is based on the 1934 "Surgeon's Photograph".
Monarch at some point discovered Leviathan in Loch Ness, Scotland, and established Outpost 49 to monitor it.
When King Ghidorah, having become the reigning Alpha Titan on Earth's surface, emits an alpha call to make the surface's Titans awaken and begin rampaging at his command, Leviathan breaks free and begins to hunt with its new pack.
During the Castle Bravo meeting, the base's digital world map indicates that Leviathan has moved into the Arabian Sea, inbetween southern India and northern Somalia.[1] Later, the USS Argo's digital map indicates that Leviathan is closer to its former resting place; in a stretch of the North Atlantic Sea westward of Scotland and directly south of Iceland[2] just before the ORCA calls all the Titans to Boston. Leviathan does not arrive in time for the battle and does not see Godzilla become the alpha of all Titans again.
Trivia
The outpost Leviathan was contained in, Monarch Outpost 49, is a possible reference to the 1949 Argosy Pictures film Mighty Joe Young.
Leviathan can travel in and out of Loch Ness with the use of Hollow Earth tunnels.
Coincidentally, it is believed by many Loch Ness Monster theorists that there are tunnels under Loch Ness connecting it to the sea.
