Outpost 18 is the aquatic headquarters used by Monarch in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters that first appears in Cause and Effect. It is one of the first of Monarch's outposts to be mobile.
Appearance
Outpost 18 is a large futuristic ship with a primarily white color. It has two blue stripes on its sides at the front, one thin and another much broader. The broad blue paint has the vessel's name on it. The ship's deck takes up nearly half its length, and it has a helipad. The superstructure of the ship has a slope at the front, and the sensor mast starts at the bottom of its back and extends to the top, which also has satellite devices. The back-most part of the sides of the superstructure is blue with the Monarch sigil between them. The symbol is also seen on its backside at the bottom, within blue paint. The aft deck has two cranes and two helipads, and under it is the launch bay, where two Zodiacs are stored (one was left at a beach in the Southern Skull Island). The Monarch logo is also seen oat the back-most part of the sides of Outpost 18.
The bridge has a central command center with various computers that Monarch operatives use. It also has screens to view satellite imagery and footage. The bridge also has an elevated flag bridge, which has a meeting table, chairs, and one screen. The bridge has catwalks connecting the command center, the flag bridge, its walls, and other sections of the ship. The doors in Outpost 18 have the organization's symbol as patterns. The control center is where the ship is driven; it also has screens and computers.
The ship has many rooms with two bunk beds and a restroom. Its sick bay is spacious enough to hold 14 agents. It has at least 4 passages. It has many lights inside that indicate the condition of its power frame, turning red when it goes down. The lights are otherwise blue.
History
Cause and Effect
Outpost 18 first appears when Keiko Randa wakes up inside its sick bay. She panics and escapes the room, and searches for a way outside what she thought was the building. When she finds an exit and opens it, she is confused and surprised at finding herself on a large boat in the open ocean. Her son, Hiroshi Randa, comes to check on her. She asks him where they were, to which he replies it is her legacy, Monarch.
Inside the command center, Deputy Director Natalia Verdugo, Tim, and Brenda Holland discuss Kong's rampage that occurred last night at the Apex Cybernetics Skull Island research facility. The former two later talk to May Olowe-Hewitt, Cate Randa, Kentaro Randa, Hiroshi, and Keiko about why they were being held and whether they will be rescuing Lee Shaw from Axis Mundi.
Later, Kentaro brings a glass of water to Cate in her room, and the half-siblings talk about their next steps. She then goes to the sickbay, where Hiroshi is watching over a resting Keiko, who collapsed earlier, and convinces her father to help her in rescuing Shaw. Brenda goes to meet May before leaving, and offers her what May knew was a job, to which she refuses. She and Cate watch the Apex executive fly away on a Monarch helicopter from the deck of Outpost 18. The latter asks the former for help in going back to the island in order to bring Shaw back.
May goes to the command center to make sure no one sees through the security cameras that Cate, Kentaro, and Hiroshi are sneaking toward the launch bay. Tim notices May and tells her about every feature of Outpost 18 he can think of, but is baffled when she asks him how fast a knot exactly is. She quickly slips away and joins the rescue group, who take some life jackets and a Zodiac, their transportation to Skull Island.
Keiko later wakes up and looks at the command center from a catwalk along the walls of the bridge. Tim takes her below to the center, where she is amazed at the advanced technology, such as satellite images. She suggests using the satellite maps to avoid Kong and rescue Shaw, but Verdugo declines due to not wanting to endanger more lives. Keiko then looks at a security footage from last night, and she notices a Sea Scarab. She tells the director and Tim about the implications of such a creature being present on Skull Island. Just then, a Monarch operative informs about the missing Randas and May. Verdugo orders Keiko to tell them everything she knows about the small creature, and they later scramble to the destroyed Apex base via helicopters.
Resonance
The two helicopters return with Shaw, Keiko, Hiroshi, Cate, Kentaro, and May, but without Verdugo. Upon landing, they get off, along with a stowaway, i.e., a Sea Scarab, in the command center. Tim, Templeton, Gwynn, Shaw, and Keiko converse about their next plan, which was decided to be pursuing Co-Cai while maintaining a safe distance.
Hiroshi repeatedly goes over his notes to see what went wrong on Skull Island. Their disagreement over whether they should have carried out the task of bringing Shaw is heard by Cate. She runs away with her father following her. A conversation about the blame later, she goes to her room. The Sea Scarab later attacks a Monarch medical tech, killing him.
Tim tells Shaw about his orders from Director Barris. Over the command center, Cate and May talk about their families. The discussion turns into a slight argument, and May leaves Cate alone on the catwalk.
Shaw and Keiko converse about Monarch's change and his latest adventures before falling into Axis Mundi. Tim and Gwynn come into the control room and go over Co-Cai's distance from them and her speed, which was now 46 knots. Shaw suggests increasing the ship's speed, but Tim says it's already at full speed and its engines were rated to 110%. Shaw still tells them to push it, but Templeton says it will risk overheating. It was a needed risk, but Tim says he wouldn't want the engine to blow out and halt their pursuit. Keiko realises that Co-Cai is moving toward vessels in the Strait of Malacca. She gives the crew an emotional piece of her mind, and Tim orders to increase Outpost 18's speed. The ship, now moving at least 51 knots, accelerates ahead.
Shaw asks if the ship has any weapons. It doesn't, being for research and monitoring only. He brings up the drone he saw on the deck. Gwyn shows him its specs. Upon learning about its sonar transducer, Keiko suggests using it to emit an infrasonic signal to get a direction-changing response, which would at least distract it. Hiroshi modifies the pulser setting of the transducer to mimic Co-Cai's frequency. Having only 20 minutes before the Titan reaches the vessels, the crew mobilises to carry out their plan.
In the command center, the drone operator pilots the drone and takes it above Co-Cai. The sonar transducer doesn't affect it. The drone is taken closer to it, but still no luck. Shaw moves the vertical controller down, taking it even closer to Co-Cai. It still does not budge and destroys the drone. Meanwhile, Cate confronts the lone Sea Scarab. The monster is stunned by Kentaro via a flare gun, but not before it unleashes a sonic cry that calls Co-Cai toward it. The Titan starts moving in the opposite direction, toward Outpost 18. The vessels are saved, but now the ship is in danger. Kentaro calls the center and informs the crew about the Sea Scarab that had stowed away on the ship. Shaw realises that the Titan is coming toward them to collect the creature. Shaw takes the semi-responsive body of the Sea Scarab out in the ocean on a Zodiac. Co-Cai follows him, and he throws the now-conscious Sea Scarab into the ocean. It reunites with the Titan and others like it. Shaw manages to survive the tidal wave generated by the Titan.
Secrets
Outpost 18 is docked near Tokyo following the damage sustained while pursuing Co-Cai, and Reddick Barris, the Director of Monarch, has allowed Jason Trissop and his team from Apex Cybernetics to take temporary operational control of the ship until they can locate and deal with the rogue Titan.
Trespass
Outpost 18 sets a course for San Francisco when Apex Cybernetics believes that Co-Cai is heading towards the city. However, Tim realizes that he and the rest of Monarch have been tricked when they realize that they have been following a blue whale instead.
Furusato
Outpost 18 sets a course for Santa Soledad upon being informed that Co-Cai is returning to the island. The ship has a brief close call with the Titan before it arrives on Santa Soledad at night. Tim dispatches the crew for search and rescue upon witnessing the aftermath of Co-Cai's rampage before coming across the dying Hiroshi.
String Theory
Outpost 18 is cruising through the South Pacific as Tim and Barris learn that Co-Cai is approaching Australia's Cape Melville National Park.
Separate Ways
Outpost 18 stands by in Australian waters as everyone prepares for Co-Cai's next movements and Godzilla's imminent arrival.
Ends of the Earth
Outpost 18 follows Co-Cai towards Skull Island after she parted ways with Godzilla on good terms.
