Plot
2017
Kong chases after Titan X but she successfully evades him by swimming away into the ocean. The angered Kong roars at the fleeing Titan and then at the humans flying in helicopters, clearly blaming them for releasing the mysterious Titan.
Shaw feels some aftereffects of coming up to the surface and Keiko asks him how he feels. He felt better than the last time he travelled from Axis Mundi to the surface. He then asks her if she recognized Titan X, which she did. Hiroshi is surprised to learn the two knew about the Titan. The helicopters then reach Outpost 18; Shaw isn't too happy about going to Monarch. They land on the aft deck and get out of the helicopter. Unbeknownst to anyone, a Sea Scarab had stuck itself onto the vehicle and is now onboard Monarch's ship.

The massive Titan X is freely swimming, dwarfing whales.
Outpost 18
Monarch operatives, Templeton and Gwynn are tracking Titan X and doing work as required by protocol in the central command centre. The former asks for orders from Tim, addressing him as 'Sir', as he was the next in chain of command after Director Verdugo. He doesn't respond until the agent calls him by his name, after all Tim wasn't accustomed to being a leader. Tim is not too happy by the operative's choice of words regarding Verdugo's status. Templeton requests orders but Tim refuses, instead telling him to contact Director Barris. The comms were down, however, due to a wicked EM field generated by the storm wall of Skull Island. Hence, the satellite uplink was offline. Tim asks how long it would take to fix it, Gwynn says they were boosting the signal but may need to get out of the range of interference. Due to the lack of communication and warnings, Tim realises that no one knows about the released Titan. Templeton, again, asks for orders. Shaw then appears and questions as to why they weren't mobilizing. Tim is unwelcoming to Shaw, who asks if the central mark on the nearby screen denotes Titan X, which Gwynn confirms. The Titan was almost out of their tracking range, and Shaw remarks why they were not following it. He then asks for the person in charge, surprised to learn it was Tim. Shaw says that the Titan has been given too much line but Tim retorts that they need to wait for orders from Washington. Shaw reminds him that there is no time for bureaucracy and if Titan X makes landfall, it would cause another G-Day. Keiko asks what was G-Day, which Shaw calls "Monarch's greatest failure". Tim says that Outpost 18 is not a warship but Shaw retorts it is a Monarch ship. Frustrated, Tim shouts at Lee that he doesn't have authority here. Tim gets close to him and tells him about the time he took over Monarch Outpost 88 by force and put the world at risk. He blames him for everything that happened till now. Shaw says he didn't drag Cate Randa in his plan, but at least he had a plan, unlike Monarch. All operatives in the command centre are stunned, because it was true. Tim rethinks, and orders the crew to follow Titan X from a safe distance, and send out an alert once they're clear of Skull Island's effective range. Finally receiving an order, Templeton moves to carry them out. Tim, now with a plan, gains confidence.
The lone Sea Scarab is walking upside down in the deck of Outpost 18. It leaves an air vent and enters a room before its door closes.
Hiroshi is trying to figure out what went wrong but Kentaro says he's gone over his notes many times already. His son tells him that he did what mattered more, saving his Uncle Lee, but he adds that the man hadn't been that to him for a long time. Hiroshi contemplated that they unleashed a Titan. Kentaro tries to tell him that they wouldn't have known but his father retorts it doesn't matter. He says that the button, which activated the Rift-opening device, should never have been pushed. Just then Cate overhears them argue and runs away. Her dad goes after her. She thinks Hiroshi blames her, which he denies. She asks whose fault it was then but her father says it doesn't have to be anybody's fault and that they should move on. Cate, taken aback, criticizes moving on was his way. Hiroshi tells her to blame him for everything. Cate leaves to go to her room, bumping with a Monarch medical tech on her way.
The Monarch operative enters the room the Sea Scarab was in, and goes to a counter. He hears some odd sounds but couldn't see anything making them. He walks closer to the source and notices the little monster, who jumps on and kills him.

Santa Soledad, Southern Chile
Bill spends a lot of time in the cave where Lucía had shown the paintings in it to the visitors last night. He is mesmerised at them which revealed the existence of the monster they came looking for.
Keiko is collecting samples of the rich water surrounding the island. Lee thinks the richness of the water could be why the villagers were suspicious of them. Keiko agrees and wants to know what was enriching the waters. Bill finally comes out of the cave and meets with the other two. Keiko tries showing him the sample, which contained so much phosphorus and nitrogen, but he tells them to pack up. He found a map on the walls of the cave and reduces it being a migratory route for the sea monster. The map charted the monster's path around the world and the creature had already moved on. Bill says they should go back and check the maritime archives of Santiago again for any correlation with likely M.U.T.O. encounters along the route. Keiko says how there is definitely something up with the place, and that she spent three days with them on a "stinking tramp steamer" to come here. Bill tells her how they could find the monster but she refuses to go. She adds that she never complained about running all around the world whenever he heard of a rumour or myth, but now he was dismissing her when she wants study the island and conduct research. Bill comforts her, saying he would never dismiss her and tells her to stay and collect her data, i.e., divide and conquer. He also tries to flatter her. Lee interrupts them and adds his two cents, if one is going, everyone should; they need to stick together. They refused but he reminds them that the locals don't want them around. Keiko says that is the exact reason they should stay.

Tim wanted to talk to Shaw and calls him to the flag bridge. He tells him that Director Barris has ordered him to pursue and maintain contact with the unidentified Titan at all costs, and all other priorities had been rescinded. Shaw congratulates him for making the right call but it was he who did. For most of his career at Monarch, Tim was always in the basement. He feels unready and undeserving of being a leader. Shaw tells him that some men have greatness thrust upon them and asks for the next move. Tim replies it being consequences. Director Barris had also ordered Shaw to be detained and transported to Monarch headquarters for interrogation and asset management at earliest opportunity. Shaw raises his hands to be put in handcuffs, but Tim had other plans. He says the last order was received garbled and crumbles the paper in which it was transcribed.
Cate is overlooking the central command centre from a catwalk. May approaches her and asks if she has called her mom. Tim had already notified everyone when they made it back to the ship. May remarks that she should still call and tells her how she herself talked to her mother. Cate says a lot has happened and May agrees. Her family is hiding in a basement waiting for the next G-Day. Cate regrets activating the Rift-opening device, to also which May agrees. Cate blames herself but May tells her it's on both of them as well as Kentaro and Hiroshi. Saving Shaw was the right thing do. Cate is speechless and May walks away.
Outpost 18 had come closer to Titan X now. Shaw was looking at the Titan through binoculars. Beside him, Keiko asked about what Tim said earlier, about taking over an outpost by force and endangering the world. She says it doesn't sound like the Lee Shaw she knew. Shaw tells her that he still is what he always was. Keiko asks what the issue was between him and Monarch, to which Shaw replies that they had different ways of dealing with things and that he was right. He says Monarch changed. He tells her not to fancy their modern tools and tech, they were still a government agency. Tim shows up in the control centre with Gwynn and asks her how far ahead Titan X was. She replies the Titan was 12 kilometers ahead and increasing. Titan X had sped up and now was moving at 46 knots. Shaw asks if the ship can go any faster. Tim says it's at full speed. Shaw then asks if it's at full power, to which Templeton says the engineds are rated at 110%. Shaw suggests increasing it further but the engine would be at risk of overheating. Shaw says the risk was required but Tim adds that if the engine blows out, they can't pursue the rogue Titan anymore. Shaw says they will lose the Titan if they don't try. Tim asserts that he won't let them be sitting ducks out in the ocean, especially when there are 200 hundred people in the ship. Shaw reminds him that there are hundreds of thousands more in the monster's path.
Keiko notices some objects on the tracking map. Gwynn identifies them as almost 14 vessels. Shaw says those vessels are in the Strait of Malacca, a choke point for sea traffic. Shaw tells Tim about the potential losses of life of hundreds of civilian sailors. Keiko asks them what Monarch's mission was. Tim tells her the mission statement: "Discovery and defense in a time of monsters". Shaw and Keiko remember that as Bill's words. The latter informs them of that. She continues that defence was useless, as the Bikini Atoll test failed to kill one of them. It was after that did they decide the only way to defend against them was to discover, learn everything they can, and always chase the truth. She asks if that was not the reason they built Outpost 18 and are here. She questions if Monarch really changed more than she realised. Tim gives the order to increase speed. The ship's monitor beeps with warning as it starts moving as fast as it can.

Bill leaves the island on a boat provided by Lucía. Augustín comes to the port and asks if the other two left. She says she'll talk to them again and that there is still time. He disagrees with the latter, saying there's not enough. She says she'll try to talk and make them understand. Augustín instead tells her that their fate is sealed.
In the cave, Lee and Keiko are studying it and collecting samples. The former says that he'd be mad, too, because of Bill, dragging Keiko to the bottom of the world, staying for half a day and then immediately losing interest. He thinks that she is angry at Bill but is mistaken. Keiko says that she is mad at herself for being mad at him. Lee asks her what's wrong after noticing her facial expressions. She tells him about her previous husband, Hiroshi's father. He was a good man and a good husband. Lee sits up on a rock and asks what happened. He was a doctor during and after the war on Nagasaki. He died, after Hiroshi was born, from cancer. He did everything for; providing for and protecting her. But he never seemed to understand that it just wasn't enough. Billy would drive them mad and take them to the bottom of the world but the only thing he cares about more than Monarch is Keiko and Lee. Keiko could be her own person no matter the circumstances. She then feels a vibration in the cave and checks it with her stethoscope.

Outpost 18
Shaw asks Tim what weapons were there onboard. Tim replies there aren't any as the ship is a research and monitoring outpost. Shaw mentions the drone he saw on the deck. Keiko is surprised that drones are finally being used. The drone wasn't armed but it had a camera. Gwynn pulls up its specs and they take a look at them. It had advanced technology, including a sonar transducer. Keiko tells everyone that they've seen Titan X before and that it responds to subsonic sound. They could get its attention by using the drone to emit an infrasonic signal, or at least distract it. Hiroshi says that he might be able to modify the pulser setting on the sonar transducer to mimic the Titan's frequency. They had about 20 minutes before Titan X hits the vessels. Tim quickly mobilizes the plan.

Keiko and Lee had set up some equipment on ground in the cave, and were preparing to go collect water samples. They would try to get a boat from the unreceptive villagers. Augustín and Lucía show up. The former asks if the outsiders found what they were looking for. Keiko says they don't exactly know what they're after, but not knowing is what makes their work exciting. She apologises for any disturbance they may have caused. Augustín instead apologiges for they had not welcomed the visitors. Shaw says they must have their reasons to which the native man replies he knows that Lucía told them about the danger. The people had strong beliefs or superstitions. Keiko asks of what kind. Lucía says this place is very sacred to her people and that they think the fish won't come due to outsiders. Keiko asks her if she believes that, to which Lucía says that its just a superstition. Augustín then says the old ways don't go out without a fight and that they don't want the outsiders to think of them as primitive fools. He says their festival is tonight and invites them. Lee tries refusing at first but accepts after Keiko does so.

Outpost 18 and the Strait of Malacca
The lone Sea Scarab moves on, leaving blood trails.
Keiko is sitting beside Hiroshi, who is working on modifying the drone's pulser setting. He puts her hand off the sonic transducer. She is curious of the technology and watches her son work. He faces a problem. Inputting frequency as between 1 and 20 Hz is not very specific. Keiko tells him that she had limited instruments back then compared to what he has now. She suggests emitting a variable range, but the odds of hitting on the exact signal Titan X responds to are not favourable. Seemingly a roadblock, Hiroshi is frustrated and was about to bite his nails. Keiko's motherly instincts take over and tells him not to bite his nails. Both smile, and share a sweet moment, for they couldn't be in each other's life for many years. Keiko says that Billy would have loved all of this and would have been right at home. Hiroshi says that he was always more at home when he was at work. Hiroshi then comes up with a solution to the frequency problem and applies it.
From the aft deck, the drone flies away controlled by a Monarch operative. Keiko is amused by it, but Shaw says the tech isn't a substitute for experience and instinct.
Cate returns to her room. The Scarab moves along the ceiling of the hallway and Cate, hearing it crawl, comes out to check. She sees blood on the floor, a door and pipes on the ceiling. She then sees the Sea Scarab and runs toward the phone outside her room. She says on it that there's something in the deck but no one answers. The Scarab comes closer, and she thinks of entering her room but decides to engage the creature. Grabbing a nearby fire extinguisher, she prepares to fight.
The drone reaches Titan X and Hiroshi orders its operator to activate the sonar transducer. Gwynn states that the Titan is seven clicks from the ship cluster and there are five minutes to intercept it. The drone goes lower but X still does not respond. Shaw orders the operator to go even lower but refuses as it might hit the water. With only four minutes remaining, Shaw pushes down the controller, gets the drone closer and tells the operator to hold that distance. Titan X still does not change her direction. She takes the following drone down by hitting it with one of her appendages, the drone falls into the water. All agents sigh at the turn of events, with Shaw being at a loss of words. He asks if they have another one, but they don't and are disappointed at the result of Shaw's decision. Tim orders the vessels to be warned of the approaching Titan.
The Sea Scarab comes closer and closer. Cate had difficulty in unlocking the fire extinguisher, as the monster moves faster toward her. Just then, Kentaro shoots it with a flare gun. The Scarab falls down on the floor, hurt. Kentaro and May come down from the stairs, and the latter compliments the former for his aim had improved. An angry Cate hits the creature with the extinguisher multiple times before May pulls her back and Kentaro shoots it again. The Sea Scarab lies on its ventral side and screams. The frequency of its sound are received by Titan X, who changes her direction, now moving toward Outpost 18. The vessels survive, only facing a wave generated by the Titan's turning. The Monarch crew realises that they are her target now.

At night, when the villagers are preparing for their festival, Lee and Keiko watch them from outside Lucía's house. Lee thinks they perhaps are friendlier than they thought, which Keiko hopes for. Lucía comes out with white and black paint on her face. Keiko says she looks beautiful and Lee asks for the occasion. Lucía tells them that this is their festival. She says that the people of the island believed that they had to appease to show humility and ensure a bountiful catch. Lee says their god's name, El Gran Dios Del Mar. Keiko remarks that she said "believe" and asks if they don't anymore. Lucía says that the festival began when their ancestors came from the mainland, and Augustín abruptly continues saying they now use it as an excuse to enjoy themselves. He offers them "wine", and the four drink.
The festival begins. Everyone dances with music. Lee says that Bill is missing out on one hell of a party, with Keiko adding he should have stayed. The "wine" takes effect, and Keiko moves among the dancers and one of them takes her to join them. Lee tries following her but he, too, is taken by a dancer to join the festive dance. They enjoy in pauses, jumping in circles with others, almost coming to senses. They finally come face to face. A dancer accidentally pushes Keiko forward, and she and Lee kiss. Then the two friends finally sober up and come to their senses. Augustín had been watching them mix up with the dancers. The two look at the blood moon, and then at four villagers, including Augustín, carrying a large fish to the raised platform at the centre. They are confused at what was happening. The fish is tied to a rope and hanged upside down on three sticks. Everyone halts, staring at the fish. Their leader, Tomás, appears with a dagger and in a peculiar outfit consisting of a headwear which resembled Titan X. Everyone starts tapping one of their feet while chanting "Co-Cai". Tomás comes near the hanged fish, stabs it with the dagger and drags it down the length of the fish. He bows to it and takes the flowing blood on his hands. Lucía kneels before him and he paints a mark on her forehead. She rises up, as if in trance.

Near the Strait of Malacca and in Outpost 18
Titan X speeds up toward Outpost 18.
Kentaro contacts the command centre to report about the creature that had stowed away on the ship. Keiko asks what kind of creature and Cate replies it being one of the those who appeared from the Rift on Skull Island. Gwynn pulls up the footage of the Scarab. Shaw deduces that the Titan was coming for the small creature, not them. He tells them to turn the ship and escape. Tim says that the engine's over the red line and they can't hold the speed much longer. Templeton adds they'll risk overheating the engine. Shaw tells them to hold it for as long as possible since they just needed to buy time. Tim asks him what the time was for to which Shaw replies it was for giving back what the Titan wants. Shaw tells him to show the way to creature and Tim orders the crew to do as Shaw said. Tim and Kentaro bring the Sea Scarab to the launch bay, wrapped up in something. Shaw takes it out into the open ocean on a Zodiac to divert Titan X's attention. Just then the ship's engines and power frame stop, denoted by red lights all over inside. Tim launches the Zodiac and Shaw drives it out. Cate, standing on the slipway, feels some vibration as she's in contact with the sea water. She goes with Kentaro and May to the outer deck, not seeing the circular patterns in the water. Hiroshi and Keiko come outside to see Shaw on the Zodiac. The latter had binoculars to look closer.

Keiko asks Lucía what's happening. She replies that she tried to get them to leave, but they did not respect the villager's wishes. Lee asks what happens now. Lucía says that their secret will continue being a secret. She apologises and runs away into her house. Lee tells Keiko that they should get out of there. Keiko starts feeling the vibration again, asking Lee whether he can feel it too. He didn't, but he did feel the following quake. The blood of the fish in the raised platform makes circular patterns, and from the cave come out several hundred Sea Scarabs. Lee and Keiko see them approaching and run away.

Tim storms into the ship's control room, holding binoculars and watching Shaw carry out the plan through windows. Tiyan X was getting nearer, half a mile out and crossing. In the outer deck, May, Cate and Kentaro join Hiroshi and Keiko in watching Shaw. Titan X rises her head above the water and roars. Shaw unwraps the Sea Scarab and throws it into rhe water. He starts turning, trying escape the tidal wave generated by the Titan. He still gets hit by the water, making everyone onboard Outpost 18 think they lost him. Shaw then escapes the tidal wave, relieving everyone.
The lone Sea Scarab joins Titan X, and goes to hang onto her body just like the other Scarabs.

Trivia
- Titan X's name is revealed when the villagers of Santa Soledad chant her name, Co-cai. Co-cai is the name of a God/Goddess of Mapuche/Chiloé.
- Kentaro using a flare gun to attack the Sea Scarab is a callback to when he tried to attack the Frost Vark with a flare gun. May even commented on his improved aim.
- The final chase scene is a reference to Godzilla Minus One.
